In the mediation process, parties communicate their individual concerns, develop options, and reach mutually satisfactory solutions. Mediation does not replace the need for legal advice or services and it is helpful for parties to enter mediation with some understanding of the law. Parties are encouraged to seek independent legal counsel to understand their rights. Court mediations are initiated only when the court contacts UDR or are held at the court during a regularly-scheduled court calendar date.
