Relay Utah is a free, state program managed by the Public Service Commission that provides hearing assistive phones and cell phone amplifiers to hard of hearing and deaf individuals. Amplified, captioning, and other hearing assistive phones and technologies are available as everyone's hearing loss is different. Hearing assistive phones are provided to any hard of hearing or deaf Utahan whose income qualifies. Most people who already qualify for public assistance programs are eligible. The agency operates a demo center that is free to the public to try the phones. It is open by appointment Monday through Friday. Please call in advance. The 7-1-1 state and nationwide telephone number connects standard (voice) telephone users with deaf, hard of hearing and speech challenged individuals that use specialized relay equipment. By dialing 7-1-1 you will be connected you to the person you are trying to reach and relay your message to the deaf/hard of hearing/speech disabled person and then relay their response.
