Programs whose primary purpose is to make the public aware of the measures that people can take to reduce the risk of fires or accidents in the home, at school, at work, in the air or on the water or while walking, driving or riding as a passenger in a motor vehicle; and/or which provide instructions for preparing for and surviving an accident should one occur. Services Provided: Provides food and shelter in the aftermath of man-made or natural disasters, assists members of armed forces and their families with emergency communications, teaches lifesaving skills, e.g. First Aid, CPR, AED, babysitting. Conducts various emergency preparedness trainings including the Sound the Alarm campaign where local groups and fire departments canvass at-risk neighborhood to install free smoke alarms. All disaster assistance and emergency preparedness trainings are free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people.COVID-19 UPDATE: Office is temporarily closed. Provides humanitarian relief and disaster response, including trained ERT's (Early Response Teams) ready to respond to man-made or natural disasters, spiritual and emotional care teams, and church locations that can act as temporary shelters. In addition, UMCOR helps communities prepare for emergencies, and learn how to reduce the risk of disasters, through a roster of training programs.
