Mutual support groups whose members are individuals who have been involved in physical or emotional abuse involving a spouse or other partner. The groups meet in-person, by telephone or via the Internet; provide emotional support, information and resources for those who participate; and may be structured for victims of domestic violence or those responsible for battering them. Eligibility: Youth ages 13 - 17; adults ages 18 and older. Eligibility prioritizes women who have experienced intimate partner violence within the last year, qualify under the federal definition of homeless, and are eligible for the services through the Housing Authority.
Services Provided: Crisis shelter, intervention, and housing for victims of domestic violence. Walk-in services are provided for both men and women in abusive relationships through the Salt Lake Area Family Justice Center at the YWCA.
The YWCA provides shelter, transitional housing, education, and supportive services. Programs address a variety of basic, immediate needs for safety, shelter, food, and clothing, as well as longer term needs for affordable housing, quality child care, economic empowerment, racial justice, emotional health, and physical well-being.
